Iv searched on here and on t'internet but can't find a good answer...

Has anyone installed HID's in their Mini's headlamps....?

Iv got H4 halogens installed at the moment (Nightbreakers) and they are good but was wondering if it has been done to good effect o Mini's...

Iv got a good idea that maybe the headlamp will need changing to accomodate the HID kit, Im not too bad at fabrication so wont shy away from cutting holes in the headlamp housings is need be....

if the car does not have auto headlight leveling you will come across issues.

You maybe able to retro fit a projector headlight that will accommodate a xenon arc discharge bulb.

I've done it with a couple of cars now, albeit with more modern cars.

I was under the impression you needed self levelling and washer  jets, but..

I wouldn't put these in an otherwise standard mini headlight, light output is unlikely to be any better than the night breakers and you will just look like a gentleman sausage and blind other drivers. The only proper way is as above with the retro fitted projectors. Im not 100% on the legalities but this way they will work correctly as intended.

^^^^^^^^^^^ Its this video that got me to thinking about fitting HIDs and asked if it was possible to fit them to 'normal' Mini headlights...

With regards to the self levelling thing....

The self levelling only needs to be working if fitted to the car from factory but they are rarely ever tested at MoT time, also the washers only need to work if fitted from factory otherwise they are not required by law or any MoT station... a bit like reversing lights... they need to work if fitted...

Iv had 3 cars now ALL with HIDs fitted and only had 1 car with self levelling headlights, which never worked - ever...

I did have a car that was fitted with HIDs that did have the washers, but only because I fitted them, and only because I wanted to fit them not for requirement from the law or MoT station....

The only car I had with projector headlights was my last car (Vauxhall Omega Elite) which had all 3 things that have been mentioned...

All cars passed MoT everytime on headlights, was never questioned about the legality or fitment/use....

This is similar to what I've done in the past.

Bi-xenon projectors fitted into existing reflector lenses.

Only trouble I had was the beam was high and had to block off the top part of lense like the evil eye brows you can buy (it just used black tape as headlamp rings were black)
