DSN/Retrosport make one that's compatible with both simplex and duplex.

Find a pre-1976 Timing Chain Cover, problem solved.

Way easier to mod what you have and it ain't hard to do.

Isn't it literally just hammering the dimple out so its flat?

I'm pretty sure you don't need the front plate, but yes, I agree that to mod a later one is easy enough.

Yeap, but also taking some care so as to not distort the gasket face nor the seal location, though I think you'd be going hard to damage these.

I always thought you needed to use matched A or A+ front plates.

Nah. I need to modify the Pre-tensioner types to use them with a Tensioner (drill one hole), but not the other way around.
Also, with the 'dimple' that needs bashing out, not all tensioner type cover have that dimple, so can go straight on.

they are the old A series ones. not '"new".

I doubt you'd find a new one, but I'm sure they come up on ebay often enough. They look like this;-
another option, as I mentioned before, is that there are some late timing chain covers that just fit right on, no modifications needed at all,
