Hello,

I purchased a 1380 engine and transmission from the UK and had it shipped to the US. Its in the car, and I filled with break in oil and ran above idle to break-in the engine in. I was double checking the tappets clearance and noticed when in gear I couldn't turn the front tires to advance the cylinders when in gear. The tires could be moved but no change in the tappets. I started the car put it in gear the the tires slowly moved but I could easily stop them. The speedometer moves when in gear. Thought maybe it wasn't all the way in gear as I had added a quick shift from minispares. Installed the original shifter and have the same issue. Any ideas on what it could be?

It was on ebay, my mini15 who had several engines sold. He hasn't responded to my emails about the engine. It appears to be well built. Changed the head with a minispeed stage 4. Front wheels off the ground. When I push in the clutch the tires stop spinning.

Sounds like the differential crownwheel doesn't touch the pinion...
Hope I'm wrong. 😐

I had something similar on a metro once, it was the front hub splines that has gone, a new CV joint and hub and all was well.

Hate to say it but you've probably been ripped off with the engine.

The seller is a known crook and sells utter junk engines.

I know of at least 4 people who have bought of him(and from his other eBay IDs).

To date i don't think he has had a single satisfied customer.

You need to start trying to get your money back asap.

Thank you everyone for the quick feedback, just waking up in Seattle. It looks like he might have had a few names but email was [email protected] . I have 2 year old twins so don't get much time to work on the car. I purchased last Nobember and took 3 months for it to get here. The paint was horrible and sloppy so I removed and repainted and also added a dns timing cover to it. Everything on the car has been powder coated as well. Took me some time till I put the engine back in.

I'll keep you posted on what I find.

If the speedo is moving then it's not the clutch.

can you hear any metal on metal sounds as it's trying to turn the wheels ?

Are you driveshafts pushed right in to the gearbox / diff ?

Can you see a driveshaft turning but not turning the wheel ?

Yes I can hear metal sounds and the drive shafts are all the way in. The drive shaft turns with the wheels.

As your car is in the air, try this:
In gear ( engine off), when you turn one wheel, the other should go the other way.
But as you have speedo turning but not wheels turning when trying to move, I suspect nothing will happen...

Your correct, nothing happened. Why is it that the other wheel should  go the other direction?
