Is required when you need to skim the head a lot to get a suitable compression relation.
All covered in Vizards book.

Cheers, I've got a copy of that but I haven't got round to studying it all yet. It will hopefully be going on my A+ 998 so looks like it may have already been skimmed down for it.

Maybe why it is in such poor condition as it was deemed scrap.

I've not got my hands on it yet. It needs a fair skim for a 87' 998cc I think. I can fix an engine bit I'm no pro. unbolting things fixing and putting it back together is where I'm at. when it comes to compression rations and all that jazz I will have to ask or do some serious reading.

As long as it's not cracked, it would be OK. Needs a clean up, but I've had much worse and they can come up like new. I wouldn't be at all worried about the way they have redone the Oil Feed, but I would want to see what the Combustion Chamber Volume is before buying.

Is there any way to increase the combustion chamber size if it is too small? My dad said that they used to re-size the kidney shape to improve performance back in the 70's but he couldn't remember if it was this head or just a standard 998 head. ill let him off as it was a while ago. can you get such a thing as a thicker gasket?
Its only costing me £60 as its a bit of an unknown entity, but I though it was worth a punt at that price. If it is no good ill have to make some mini memorabilia out of it.

It could be useful to hold the edges of tarporline down or to wedge doors open on windy days.Is there any way to increase the combustion chamber size if it is too small? If you're in to small bore engines, it would easily be worth 60 quid.
If the cambers are found too small in volume, you can open them up with some careful work with a die grinder, or you can find some higher volume dished pistons. Until you get a hold of it, and CC it, you won't really know. One of the 'problems' with these heads is that they had a big chamber to start with and many factory engines that they were fitted to had a raised section on the piston to compensate for this.
