Hi there,

I'm about to get a set of Yokohama A032s to go on 10x5 alloy wheels. I'll have the wheel alignment set to about -1 degree camber, 2mm toe out, and 3-4 degrees caster. The subframe is solid mounted if that makes any difference. Everything else with the suspension is stock (new cones and dampers installed recently)

I've read and heard from people that soft compound tyres sometimes don't go too well on cars with stock suspension, i.e. increasing body roll, breaking away suddenly without warning, and even some stories about going up on two wheels since there's so much grip. Does a Mini on A032's suffer the same sort of drawbacks as with the cars in those stories? I'd love to hear any other stories or experiences with them.

Cheers,

James

The 032's are in my opinion a really good tyre and pretty hard wearing. never had any grip issues even do the odd wet lap or two of Castle Combe, defo recommend them

I could get my mini on 2 wheels on 145/70/12 nankang tyres.
Imo there are better tyres out there than the A032. Especialy for a road car.

I've got a set on 5 x 10's and have been very impressed with them, I was surprised at how good they were in the wet too.

I've found the opposite, the a032r is one of the best tyres you can get for 10" wheels, brilliant grip in the dry, still very good in the wet but in larger puddles it can aqua plane as its only got 4.5mm tread from new. I found they don't last very long as they are very soft but I would recommend them.

When I tried A032s on 10" wheels I wasn't particularly impressed with the level of grip. Perhaps I was expecting a "super tyre" but to me they didn't seem to be particularly special. When they wore out I switched to A008s which on my set up seem to generate similar levels of grip, last longer and have better off-road capability.

For a road car I think the A008 is probably a better all-round tyre.

It depends how you intend to drive it on the public roads. If you are to be in 'licence-threatening' territory all the time then, in the dry, an A032 would be fine until you get banned. A032 is good for sprints and hill-climbing though, or for track days.

Also make sure the rear suspension is set accurately as that is possibly more critical than the front.

Thanks everyone for all that! I've decided to go ahead and buy them. I've had the rear suspension checked and it's all reading well within spec and similar on both sides. As for the sort of driving I intend to do, I'll be using them for track days and the occasional blast around the hills. I'm quite cautious with my spirited drives on the hills though, I understand a sudden change in conditions can make any car crash, no matter how well it grips or handles! I have a set of 145 wide Falkens on a steel set so I will be switching between them a bit so the A032s last longer.

Thanks again everyone!

For your sort of driving they sound like a good choice. I found that they were annoyingly loud when cruising on the motorway, even in my well sound-deadened MPi.
