The brake flexi-hose right at the end of the line going to the o/s/f wheel is showing signs of cracking so I want to replace it. Is it possible to clamp this anywhere to prevent fluid shooting out? Anything else I need to be aware of when swapping this part?

Am planning on ordering these... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLASSIC-MINI-FRONT-RUBBER-BRAKE-HOSE-SET-2-GBH249-2-/361152969839?fits=Model%3AMini%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+I&hash=item541664fc6f:g:zI4AAOSw91NTtCxq

I presume once replaced it's a case of bleeding the brakes in order and job done?

nope as the only bit you can clamp is the bit you are changing.

sealing the top (filler) of the MC can reduce the fluid loss.

Ok.. so just go for it? I have plenty of spare fluid for topping up luckily! No random washers or anything in going to encounter am I? Just planning on buying the brake hoses.

Yes there are copper washers that may need replacing, other things depends on the system fitted to your car.

Note the disc and drum braked cars gave different length front hoses.

And I hope you are not buying because of the name.

It's a totally standard '91 Mayfair. So I may need washers?

It seemed the cheapest for a pair.

It's always a good idea at the very least to have the copper washers on hand. Yes, they had them on your model.

I may also be an idea to get the bit nut and star washer that holds the hose to the Subframe too.

Ok.. I'm confused though. At the subframe end there's one nut and star washer? And at the wheel end? For one side what do I need to buy?

I don't want to sound like an old man, But if your asking these sort of questions when dealing with the breaking system, you might want to have a look through a manual or a guide first. Considering how safety critical it is.

However, It shoudl go like this:

Large Nut, Star washer, Sub frame, Flexi Pipe, Copper washer, Caliper or Drum.

You want to tighten up the drum or caliper first, before fully tightening the large nut on the subframe or you could end up with a twisted pipe.

Should give you an idea :)

Why do they sell just the flexi pipe without the nut and washers? If it's necessary to replace all of them at once?

Every one I have bought came with the big nut and washers for the Caliper end fitting. The others are not needed for all systems as they are plumbed differently. But if banjo bolt or pressure switch on the right side of the car you may need two more. Both different sizes.
