After spending a fortune on inner and outer sills and seeing the state of the inside of the jacking points, I have been trying to get some original slide in covers, or bungs, to stop mud and the like from ruining my new ones. However, these do not seem to be available any more, although other BL models seem to be well catered for. I can get a pair for a Morris Minor on eBay for £4.00. I'm old enough to remember when all cars had these, but every manufacturer produced ones with a different diameter and angle for the outer flange.

Anyone know where I might be able to get these, or ones that might fit with a bit of "Whittling". Or maybe best to leave them out and keep it pumped full of cavity wax?

There is no reason not to use the sill jacking points if the car has been restored correctly and not bodged. They are amply strong for their intended purpose.

I looked for similar when I did mine and I couldn't find any. Tried making some and they didn't work too great. Ended up making a closing plate held on with 2 self tappers caked in waxoyl. Easy enough to pop off and use in an emergency or clean and wax regularly.

I should have suggested earlier that there are plenty of modern silicone rubber resins for moulding things like that.

I welded mine up whilst I was doing the sills anyway.

Thanks for everyone’s input and I did get a suggestion, similar to tiger99’s idea of moulding one.

A neighbour’s friend, from Belgium, who works in a chocolate shop, said that he had hundreds of silicone moulds and could find one that suited. He mentioned that he had various anatomical moulds and one in particular, that was particularly popular for “Hen nights”, he thought with a bit of fettling would do the job. Adding that, “you wouldn’t need to scratch the paintwork with a screwdriver to get it out, as it would have a couple of convenient handles on each sill”!

I gratefully declined his offer, but must admit, it would certainly make a talking point at a car show.

Maybe I’ll get a silicon rubber moulding kit and make a mould of the actual jacking point. If I go into mass production, I’ll sell them on eBay.

I'd buy a pair. Not the ones with 2 handles but the ones you would mould.
