Hi,
Like the title says, I don't know what my fuel tank size is. There is a diagonal indentation on the side, does it mean it's a 7.5 gallons?
I need to buy new straps, that's why.
Thanks.

That's a 5.5 gallon tank. The diagonal indent is where the tank strap sits.

Are you sure? Somerford seem to show the indent for the 7.5 gallons, but the 5.5 gallons have vertical straps?

Weird, looks like a 5.5 shape but with the 7.5 strap channel.

I'm fairly certain looking at the size and shape of it as i have a 5.5 gallon tank in my '78 saloon. Though as Mini 360 said it seems to have the indent as per a 7.5 gallon tank. 5.5 gallon tank have more angular edges compared to the 7.5.
Also looking at that Somerford catalogue Canadian & Swedish Mini's use a different tank strap?
I'm sure someone will know

It's true that my Canadian Mini had different straps, because of different bumper bracing taking space in that area. But I converted that into ''normal'' spec, so I will use normal straps, but the original canadian tank.
I now see that a real 7.5 gallons has a bigger belly, so it must be a 5.5, with a diagonal strap indent, but with a vertical strap was used. I think I'm just going to buy the diagonal 7.5 gallons strap and shorten it as needed, does it make sense?

Ah yes that makes sense.
You could just make one out of some thin steel sheet instead, I can get you some dimensions from mine if that helps?

I'll buy a diagonal strap and use it as a diagonal strap, as I already welded the brackets for that in the boot.
I may be the only one with a 5.5 gallons diagonal strapped tank.
Thanks for your help!

I meant I can get you the dimensions for the correct diagonal strap to suit a 5.5 gallon tank. I thought you mentioned buying a diagonal strap for a 7.7 and shortening it?

Part number 29 in the Somerford image is the diagonal strap for a 5.5 gallon tank, fitted from 76-80 (generally in the smaller engined cars). Despite what the picture shows, those tanks would have an indent.
Shortening a 7.5 gallon strap is quite straight forward.
You are so right! I overlooked the top left image just because the tank didn't have the indent. However the part is not available anymore. Maybe from another supplier.

Why don't you put 5.5 gallons of water in it and see what happens!
