Hello,

Hoping to pick your collective brains again in case anyone is running a similar spec engine mine.  I'm looking for a decent starter needle suggestion for my rebuild.  I'll be taking it to a rolling road as soon as possible for fine tuning, but looking for the best starting point possible and I'll chuck it on my last order of mini bits.

Spec is:

1330cc A+ which should have a compression ration of around 10.2:1 or 10.3:1 according to Southam who did the machining.

Gas flowed and ported big valve MG Metro head (standard size valves, double valve springs).  It's fast road spec, not anything wild.

SW5-07 Cam

HIF44 carb (used but refurbished with SU rebuild kit)

MED Stub stack kit with ITG air filter

1.3:1 roller tip rockers

123 Ignition dizzy

Maniflow freeflow exhaust manifold with 1 3/4" twin box exhaust.

I think that covers everything that would affect the fuelling?

The needle I've got in the carb at the moment is a BDK, based on the Minispares website saying:

BDL: 1300MG, HIF & KN ELEMENT, useful for 256 degree duration camshaft with standard filter, see BDK for K&N filter.

I don't expect it to be a million miles away, but if anyone's running anything similar and could share their experience then that would be mega helpful for when I'm running the engine in.

(I would try WinSU, but I don't have a windows PC that I can install software on at the mo!)

Have you looked on www.mintylamb.co.uk?

I have had a look there, but seems most useful for finding a better/more suitable needle when you have something to compare to?

My engine hasn't actually run yet as it's a new build, so I'm looking for the best starting point that I can, hopefully profiting from everyone else's experience :proud:  .  It's also my first 1275 as I've only run 998s with HIF38s so far, so all my previous needle and fuelling knowledge is mostly useless!

On a fresh engine start with a leanish needle tk Run it in. Atleast thats what People Have alway adviced me.
BDL is your best het imho.
Thats also what AC dodd adviced me, very similar build.

BDL is sounding like a good place to start then :) Makes sense if it's slightly on the lean side so it can be reprofiled on the rolling road too.
