Hi there,

In the next few weeks I plan to upgrade my drum brakes on a 1980 Mini to the 7.5" kit from MInispares. (This one when it's back in stock: http://minispares.co...|Back to search)

I was just wondering before I go ahead with it what they'll be like without a servo and with the original master cylinder? Any advice/experiences/info would be much appreciated. Oh and also, will any 10" wheels fit with them or are there some known issues with some?

Cheers,

James

I was runnng this exact setup before the resto on my clubby and had no issues at all. Yes you may have to put a little more effort in but not a lot. Two L2Bs at motorway plus speeds and he never failed to pull up sharply.

Plus I like the decluttered look of the engine bay anyway.

As above, brake pedal pressure is higher without servo but will work well.

Do check the size of your master cylinder, best to use no bigger than 0.70 inch bore.

Rear brake cylinders should be 5/8 bore with suitable pressure limiting valve fitted to prevent the rear brakes locking up.

I run a fairly seriously souped up 1293 '67 Deluxe with 7.5 inch discs and no servo. As others have said the brakes work really well but more pedal pressure is required. It's really not an issue and I feel completely confident with the cars braking ability. I do tell friends who are used to power assisted brakes that they need to push harder than they are used to. Once they give it a go they all remark on how well the car pulls up.....

And they always get out of the car with a smile on their face :-)
