Dear All,

please don't shoot me down in flames but I've got an idea.?

The Belgium MOT disallows me from upgrading to discs. So, perhaps Minifins up front could improve things slightly...?

IF I was to have the inbuilt spacer machined down, is there any safety reason why these can't be used at the front.?

Cheers as always.

I don't thing the casting would allow that.. However you can get non spaced minifins.. They do pop up on eBay every so often

Cheers.

Having looked at some close-up photos, it's not a easy as I thought - but will look on-line for non-spaced versions which I didn't know existed.

Thanks

Minifins are narrow and can be fitted to the front.

Super Minifins are wide and cannot be machined down as the spacer part isn't solid. These are the only type that are reproduced now.

Are these the minispares variety.?

If so, will ask for dimensions..

I fitted a full set to my old Mini, many many years ago when they first came out...

Also fitted an RC40 system when that first became available too, much less noisy than the cherry bomb I had fitted along with a Peco backbox...

I have had a pair of original non spaced minifins on the front with twin leading shoes for a number of years now.

I`m still not sure if or how much they reduce fade as it still occurs at over 45 mph but the feel and initial bite is good.

I gotta put my thinking cap on now, but only recently (within the past couple of months) but I did find someone who was selling Minifins (as opposed to Superfins) new. It seems someone remade a batch or maybe they are back in production.

I imagine too, that these would also be a MOT failure for you, however something that's easy and quick to reverse.

While I've not driven a car with them up front, they would have to help and I have heard many reports that with the right shoes, they are far better brakes than the original 7" Cooper Brakes.

Fitting alloy wheels with Minifins might also help reduce brake fade?

Alloy wheels should help soak away the heat from the drums much better than steel wheels.

My 1970's Minifin Leaflet below......(I had Minifins all round back in the 1970's and no reason why you could not now, if you can find some).

As above. The correct terminology for the finned drums.

Minifins all around.

If you want to fit super Minifins to the front use the taper bearings as per the discs.
