Hi Guys,

My engine is in need of a re bore and so I've been looking to get some +0.060" pistons for it. The ones I've found on mini spares are circlip type though the ones from my engine are non-circlip. Will this have any effect or will the circlip type be a straight swap onto the conrod?

Cheers,

Lewis

For circlip-type pistons you must have circlip-type con-rods.

You can get your machine shop to open out the ends of the press-fit rods to accept floating gudgeon pins.
Probably more faff and expense than sourcing a set of the correct rods though - I might have a spare set, I'll look.

Or you can fit a standard factory bush to your rods and convert them to floating type and then the current range of pistons that are available are no longer an issue.

This is the bush

but keep in mind you'll need them Honed after fitting.

I have fitted circlip type piston to press fit pin type rods. As with any interference setup you must check you have the correct interference fit between the pin and rod little end. You need the rod bore to be a min 0.0008" smaller than the pin at 20celcius for success.
