Hello guys,

ive got a 1988 998 engine with a 1275 cam fitted. The cars been sat for just over a year and I've recently fixed and filled the car with some fresh oil.The car start but instantly runs to high revs, the revs are lessened when i pull the choke out (which is the opposite of what its supposed to do right?!?) Before I go about fitting a new choke cable,as i think that is potentially the problem anyone got any ideas on what could be another issue.Throttle is responsive and fine and as to my knowledge not causing the high rev issues.

You guys think its the choke or could it be something else...when the car was just ticked over nice before i started sorting the oil leak,so dont think its necessarily a tunning issue, but im not massively experienced so i could be completely wrong

Thanks guys :)

The throttle plate in the throat of the carburetter is stuck wide open. When you pull the choke there is coming mucht more fuel into the airstream so that the mixture becomes much too rich, which depresses the revs. So check the gas cable while some one else pushes the throttle padal down and let it come up again. You should see the cable that is connected to the carburetter pulls the throttle when the pedal goes down and come out of the external cable when the pedal is coming up again.

As a side note, make sure the throttle isn't stuck open, mine was yesterday(my friend had just fitted a new cable) and it was stuck slightly open, I could drive along at 20 mph in second gear with no throttle pedal input lol

I would do a simple check to see if the throttle is open. I bet the outer throttle cable has been pulled out and is resting on the end of the guide on the abutment plate...Or something like that.
