Hi there

i am having problems with my 1974 innocenti cooper s servo unit , as soon as the engine is started the front brakes lock up , if i disconnect the vacuum pipe the brakes free up and the engine revs increase quite a bit.

Has anybody got an idea whats went wrong and how to remidy it.

look forward to hearing from you

cheers dave

It sounds like there is an air leak into the space behind the diaphragm, possibly the air valve. If it is leaking then it could be possible that the brakes operate by themselves

I had this on my old 1969 1275GT which I think had a similar type of remote servo, I swapped mine out for one I had lying about at the time.

One thing worth pointing out is the mine had also sucked up a decent amount of brake fluid over the years, so be careful when removing it from the car and watch for drips, I missed one and it landed on the wing.
