I bought lower arm bushes from Minispares, they have a metal sleeve in them . Part 21A1882MS. They say it's better with the sleeve.

Except, the sleeve doesn't fit, it's too small, it has the same ext. diameter as the lower arm pin. I removed the sleeve and the bush fits perfectly.

What am I missing?

Also, do they need grease?

Thanks

Are you sure there's not already a sleeve rusted on there?

Mine was......

Very common that they are rusted as the other guys have said.

I put a light lick of chassis grease on the pin when assembling, not for lube, but as a rust preventer - be sure you don't get any on the rubber!  And for the rubber, to assemble them in to the Arm, I use Rubber Grease.

I think there was a thread on this in the past week or so.

Its certainly not the first thread I've seen over the years, I think I've got a pair in the garage like it too.

One reason that the pins rust so badly within the bush is that, following a suggestion in a well-known monthly comic about 30 years ago, people at one time were using washing up liquid to lubricate the bushes to aid fitting. Done it myself, which I came to regret. Apparently the leading brand, the long lasting one, which in all fairness does clean the dishes very well, maybe all others too, contains a large proportion of salt. We know what that does to steel!

Likewise don't use automotive products to clean the dishes!

I used to have a rattle can of rubber lubricant from Halfords, which works, as does silicone grease in spray or normal form. But I would advise the non-silicone rubber lubricant. Silicones tend to get everywhere and you may have to repaint part of the car eventually. Silicones, although harmless to the car, really mess up a paint job. Best not allowed in the garage, although I generally do use silicone brake fluid, carefully.

If all else fails, plain old-fashioned, non-detergent soap does the job fairly well. Don't use DOT4 brake fluid or even red rubber grease, as they will strip paint on the subframe.

The only reason I knew is because I'd done the same
