Or at least I don't think so....

 

Re-connected all the wires which I removed when swapping engine from 998 to 1275, connected fuel line (which is working as I had forgotten to connect at first so fuel was pumping out of hose...doh!)

I'm using same dizzy from 998 but have new leads and new coil. Connected black/white leads to neg of coil and white/pink and yellow/white to Positive of coil (that's how I'd labelled them anyway....!)

Fitted vac line from dizzy to card

Have the positive lead from dizzy connected along with the negative too. These are to wires from the loom which I'd labelled dizzy - and dizzy + so I know they're correct also.

But no engine start!! No a flicker or cough so I know it's the spark thats the issue.

 

Where do I start looking....?

Just an observation. The wires going to + side of coil are white/yellow and white/pink I think (very dirty!) which I read to mean I had a ballast coil fitted. I've just checked the ohms across the terminals and I'm getting 2.7-8 which says it's a standard coli.

Ok so I'm getting 12v at positive terminal of coil and negative so I know that is at least getting power, albeit it may the wrong type of coil....

So that leads me to dizzy, is there a way of checking this is getting power?

You need to tell us what kind of dizzy t is. If it has two leads it is not standard, presumably electronic, but there are various types, some with an aftermarket module in an original body. As a quick check, does it have both points and condenser? Or one or the other?

Any thoughts on this? Not that I want to but if a new dizzy is likely to be required I'm going near mini spares tomorrow!

Update. Tried plugging a spark plug directly into the lead that comes from coil and hey presto spark so the dizzy is at fault...any idea what I can check now....

Have a look at the lead that connects the base plate to the dizzy body.  It looks frayed.

Also see if the 'pin' is stil in the dizzy cap.
Fell out of mine once and took me a day to find the problem... 😣

(fell out a week before so didn't notice)

cheers guys, wheres the pin in cap (or where should it be??). I also noticed when taking off the centre lead from cap that it's net a very good fit, you don't get that click as you push it on like with the plug heads.

I'll take a look at wires etc and report back

Also the wiring to the electronic module is WAY to close to the rotating spindle. I would hazard a guess its worn through and shorted the module out.

 

Worth checking that before condemning the dizzy itself.
​Is the red wire connected to an ignition live while cranking?

 

There are two ignition lives on the fusebox, Green/White is lost when cranking the engine - White remains live during cranking.

That base plate wire let me down once and was a pita to sort on a narrow twisty lane going up a hill! Before warning triangles too!!!

Was just what it said on the pic, so just not to confuse...
