I'm about to be replacing my inner wing front panels on both sides but wasn't sure how I would go about doing it. I've attached a picture of the panel that I'm talking about.

The panel includes the holes for the front shock mount. But when I lay the new panel up against the current panel on the car it doesn't quite sit flush as there is a bulge in the current panel which is the same on the LH and RH.  I'm not sure if I bend the new panel to accommodate the bulge or cut it off before this section?

What's the proper way of fitting this new panel and removing the old one?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have only ever fitted full inner wings which are easy to line up, if I was going to attempt those repair panels I would get car level and do one side at a time, bolt to the shock mount position and set with spirit level, then just put a few welds to hold position, repeat with other side then trial fit front to ensure it all lines up before fully welding them.
I would also think as they are pattern panels a few adjustments will be neede to the shape especially where they meet existing inner wing.
Don't forget the area is double thickness near crossmember and you may need to make repairs around there before fitting.

I replaced these on my clubman recently.

I took a lot of measurements first across the engine bay and also welded onto my spit a crossbar which gave me the height of the repair panels. Once i was happy with this i carefully marked the cut line then drilled out any spot welds in that area. With that done i then cut the old panel off.

Offered the new one up making sure all of my datum lines and measurement were the same. Now at this point i replaced the inner wing stiffener that fits between the end of the crossmember and the inner wing. Its fiddly but very doable.

With this done i went ahead and fitted the repair panels and job done. Have a look at the Project Paddy link in my signature and have a look through there. I know its a Clubman and not a roundnose but the principal is the same.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to be replacing them in the next day or so. I'll make sure I've made all the relevant measurents beforehand so it all goes smoothly.

Cheers
