1969 Austin Mini 1000 fibreglass body made in Chile

Price: US $7,500

Item location: Nashville, Tennessee, United States

http://topclassiccar...e-in-chile.html

"British Leyland commissioned Peel Engineering I.O.M. to produce the original moulds for the production of these cars in Chile. Initially 6 prototypes were built at Cowley for evaluation. One was used for crash testing at MIRA and another for durability testing by Fibre Glass Ltd ( Pilkington Group ). The moulds were then shipped to Chile to start production there. The car for sale is one of the Chile built ones."

I actually spotted one parked outside a shop in the Cowley area back in the 70's, easy to recognise due to the lack of body seam mouldings, it was a white one & UK registered. Always thought it would have been a good idea for us in the UK, as no rust problems !

Production started a decade before the Uruguayan fibreglass Morris 1275 GT, & over two decades before production of the Venezuelan fibreglass Mini Cord!

Attempts at a Chilean GRP MG1300 didn't go quite so well: http://www.aronline....ean-variations/
