Hi guys,
Got a problem with my fuel gauge. Just put a new sender in and filled the tank and it's still only registering a quarter full. It's the same problem I had before. I have tried ground the circuit and the gauge goes to full so I guess it's not the gauge?
Do I need to bend the float arm?

Cheers

Sounds like it's likely to be the sender. What I would do is measure the resistance of the sender at full and empty. Do this with an empty tank and use some stiff wire through the filler neck to lift the float to the top. If out of spec remove the sender and test again. If then in spec then you may need to bend the float. If still out of spec you have a duff sender. What was the problem with the old sender?

I lifted the sender to the top when it was out of the tank and it went to full.... I'll give that a go then!

That bring the case are you happy the sender is orientated correctly relative to the tank?

I suspect, as happened with me, that the sender is getting caught within the tank & the float is not rising to the fuel level. Options are change the sender unit for the correct one or bend the sender. I had days of fun draining fuel out of the tank, refitting the sender, refilling the tank only to discover I had been given the wrong sender for the year of the mini. She is a 94 & right on the cusp of the changeover.

Good Luck

Hmmmm that's interesting. Is the carb tank different to the spi/mpi? Mines a 1992 British Open Classic and is right at the end of the run of carb models. I'm told that there is a bit of a mix of carb and spi parts in it. This might make sense with having a different fuel tank.

I believe that my 1994 Sprite (Carb) actually had a spi/mpi tank in it. The two tanks must be different as they sell two different fuel senders. I got so frustrated I replaced the tank with an earlier model tank from someone local.

The carb tank has the outlet pipe on the bottom, the mpi injection tank has the outlet pipe and return on the top as part of the pump assembly. They need different fuel gauge senders.
