theres obviously a lot of minis out there with slightly modified 1275's

here are some needle choices in my experience on my car over last 5 years

example , mg metro cam or similar, modified head, maniflow, hif44 ramair filter with substack

needles of choice are

BDL

BDP

BCE

these are the needles put in my car after dyno

from standard mg metro head to 2 different modified ones

the head now gives 80 hp and 80 torque

using a BCE

hope this helps, keep a note of them

Thanks for that, always good to benefit from some one else's experience.

I'm starting with a BDL, engine spec is 1293, Piper 285, stage 3 head, Maniflow into RC40 and K&N also keeping my eye open for a stub stack. Cant remember what needle I had in it before as I used the carb on another project but that one had no issues with the emissions test so hopefully this wont either.

you may want something bit richer than bdl for 285 i would think

go for a BDP to start with if you have one and keep eye on mixture with dyno asap

could be still to weak but never used 285 other members may know

I just compared the three of them on Mintylamb, the BDP looks a lot richer mid and top end and the BCE looks slightly richer throughout the range. I've already got the BDL, but I can see the benefits of the other two, so I'll try that initially but will get the other two for comparison when the time comes.

Thanks for the advise, much appreciated.

I have a HIF44 on 970 S engine with 731 cam. I use 34 degrees max advance with a 123 distributor and no vacuum advance. 10:1 compression ratio. After road                    testing with AFR meter and lots of Mintylamb consultation, I came up with the following:

BDL seems too lean at top end

BCE seems too rich at bottom end                              BCF too rich mid to top end.

BDR fitted  too rich overall .

BBW fitted  seems good. I am using this needle all the time on my road car
