I'm having trouble putting the cones in the rear subframe, anyone have a special trick for this?

The weight of the car will probably push it on properly... That said, my new Minispares cones in a new heritage subframe fitter without problems

Use a length of threaded rod and a nut and large washer to make something that resembles the cone compressor used at the front. Assuming that the subframe allows access of course, I have heard that some don't. A gentle tightening, say to 20Nm, will pull it into place. Don't overdo it as your rod and nut may not be the high grade steel used in the spring compressor tool. I used that trick a couple of times.
If it doesn't go all the way, keep some tension on the rod and use a "calibrated persuader", preferably rubber or plastic faced, on the trumpet face of the cone.
Or, as already suggested, rely on the weight of the car. Give it a good hard bounce. Drive over rough ground. Whatever it takes...

my mini spares ones don't stay fully seated on their own. Just have to double check their placement after jacking the back of the car up before lowering, not a big deal

There is normally about 0.5 mm clearance between these two, the Cone should almost 'fall' on. Check the both parts fr distortion, ie, if the Rubber Cone has been dropped on it's metal ring, it'll be out of round, likewise the locator on the subframe maybe bent.

Driftz, that actually is a very big deal as it is an unsafe condition and must be attended to, as it can lead to trumpet disengagement at high speed. If you are using HiLos they have been adjusted too low, and you need to set them higher or at the very least fit some rebound stops, or shorter dampers.
