Thought it about time I posted ... snot .... is my 1980 applejack city - have owned for the odd decade or two without lavishing any real tlc - while other cars came and went I couldn't part with this one so he's sat in waiting for far too long... whilst an acrimonious divorce went  well & truly sour he sat in the garage.... and my dear ex took out her frustrations on him... 5l  of flooring adhesive applied to the interior (old ripped up recaro's. and various knackered mix & match odds anyway)... most  glass smashed, mirrors kicked off and a fair few dents applied.. you get the picture...

.... fortunately everything now resolved - bar my toy.... every cloud however....snot had his problems before - has more now but madam's spi mini  died of terminal rust whilst I was out of the picture and was left behind as a consequence- so I mercilessly salvaged it to augment the goodies carefully stashed in the loft  for snot

I'm sans job at the mo so temporarily have some time on my hands.....two weeks ago.... bulkhead cleaned up.....

Engine now fitted ...but have been away for a week or two - so nothing further until today.....

The plan....

There's no budget - I'll stump up for the required welding but apart from that there's nothing in the kitty....so no respray  - rattlecans will have to do for repairs the odd roundel may have to come into play too....just my time, effort, collected spares stash and whatever I can scrounge or trade....(fairly resourceful on that score!)

Engine / Box -  refit using the spi engine with a carb... my old 1301 engine has gone to pastures new as a friend needed an engine in a hurry... the spi 1275 was in exceptional condition due to non abused low mileage..  so has been ripped apart checked over decoked, cleaned up - treated to a NOS MG metro cam, duplex set up, new seals , gaskets, clutch etc and has had diff changed to 3.44.....  ready to fit with HIF 44, MG metro inlet,  64D dizzy from an RSP, Maniflow LCB, Twin box RC40, and minispares 2 core rad & dowty autofan, Facet elec fuel pump / pressure regulator and inertia switch... starter was dead so has been changed (together with ring gear) to inertia...

Exterior... destriped city, stainless bumpers, 10" supa slots, special arches, rear windows changed for openers, pair of retro spots to the front and a 576 reversing lamp...

Interior - Equinox - literally everything that was in the spi bar the instruments - snot's original roof lining stays....  3 guage centre binnacle fitted, aux instruments - volts & vacuum on bracket, others in centre console... started remodelling that today as I've done my back in  - so light inside job needed....with some bits I had lying around.... so far... and yes it does fit by altering angle........

Suspension - Hilos all round, new cones, adj brackets to rear, adj lower arms and tiebars - standard dampers..

Brakes - Servo assisted S discs, braided hoses all round, new lines

ICE - going to have some!

Lights - Halogens....

More soon......

Cheers folks - Applejack is a fantastic colour and probably the reason why I was loath to part with the car ... ironically Halford still stock it for some reason?!?!  - can't be a big seller!

I'm posting as a project when really its a recommission / improve  in order to keep my enthusiasm going - a week and a bit on from pic already posted and....

.... thank god I used the spi subframe..... the airbox clearance is marginal at best!!! (have put a vac take off plate in)... all my teenager mods have been binned now.....

A bit uncomfortable at the mo but got underneath this morning , strapped up the inner CV boots, put in the gear linkage roll pin and put the Y piece on the LCB.... that was a sod! - a bit of storage rust meant it was a bit reluctant....

A couple of  fleabay special packages arrived  today -

- New heater matrix... as ever using the spi heater - the later matrix is thankfully cheaper (snots original was so crudded up the worlds supply  of flush / nxios chermical probably wouldn't have shifted it... the original spi one had some white furring so best replaced.....kind of job I like - all inside and 5 minutes flat! - a 15 quid jobbie so we'll see..... may be a case of getting what I paid for....

- Absolutely filthy Panasonic cd player, pioneer amp, Pioneer 6x9 speakers, wiring and custom consoles under seat speaker board..... all cleaned up  - mocked up in the house and all works! - result for a tenner :-).......a bit of reupholstery and jobs a good' un

- some nice brass hose reducers 5/8 to 1/2". swiftly popped out for some new 5/8 hose - the old spi hose too short for the retrofit

Best bit of the day - connected up the battery for the first time in a fair old while.....I've no oil pressure light  for some reason - so swiftly disconnected LT circuit, until I've investigated properly  but have both fuel & spark.......I've only one sidelight, one indicator doesn't work in hazards and the brake test switch doesn't light....  I suspect a few corroded connections!.......
