I've been looking out for dimple die sets for a while now and there are a few places that sell them however they are crazy money for something that won't get used very much!
Does anyone know of sensibly priced ones or even if any garages etc that have them? Would make sense for something that could be hired out even...

I've got passable results pressing a socket in to an appropriately bigger socket, depends on what you're trying to swage of course.

I'd have thought that if you know someone with a lathe they could turn you up some sort of tool quite easily.
Assuming these http://www.trick-too...-Flare-Tools-75 are the type of thing you are thinking of

I have been trying to get proper swaging dies for ages, for a different application. My research has so far revealed that it is highly desirable to leave the metal edge in a state of compression to avoid fatigue cracking, and that the dies which I have found so far don't seem to have a way of doing that. I have yet to find a real expert in die design.

My need to avoid cracking, or even thinning of the metal edge, is based partly on memory of ancient pieces of equipment with swaged holes which had thinned on the edge and were full of cracks.

There are a few demonstrations of swaging on Youtube, none very convincing. But one thing that does seem to be correct, is that the initial hole is usually made by a punch, and needs to be deburred before the swaging dies are applied.

Someone somewhere may have the correct info on the die design, but I have not found it yet. Possibly in some horrendously expensive book somewhere?

Hopefully a real expert will come along and enlighten us...

I've got a 1" punch & die and a 40mm punch with a home turned die. If you want to mark out your holes you're welcome to bring the panels round for punching

Done my A pillars with the 1"

Hi Nick I'm not ready with all the panels just yet but would love a look at yours if that would be okay. Drop me a pm if yes and can sort it out. Matt
