Drive Shaft Nut Removal

Now I know this isn't difficult while the subframe is in the car and the drive shafts are attached to the engine.
I need some ideas of how to strip the rice shafts from the hubs now that the subframe isn't on the car

Could you pin the subframe to the ground with a scaffold board and another car? If you can stop the subframe lifting, you can then lock the axle using a bar and two of the wheel studs, then unscrew the nut.
Mind you if it's anything like mine - see thread above this one - you might as well save yourself the bother and break the nut.

This is exactly how I did it and put a foot on the subframe, no problems and easy as peas.

Just use an impact gun, electric or air will shift it in seconds
I can certainly do that. Now just to find where I have put my impact gun

I've never seen an electric impact that will get lug nuts off let alone the axle nut - and I have one! Some air powered impacts don't do what they advertise either - I bought one that claimed it had 400ft lbs of torque -wouldn't take off lug nuts that were torqued to 100 ft lbs, so I bought one rated at 800 ft lbs, that one does the job every time!

The fit of the sockets, extension bars (if used) and the socket to the Nuts / Bolts has a lot to do with how effective Impact tools are, especially electric ones I've found. Sometimes if the tool accessories are held 'loaded' they will get the more stubborn ones undone.
