Hi, I have recently installed my new rebuilt engine and I can't seem to get any fuel to the carb. I suspected the pump was faulty so I have replaced with one I know that works. I have put the fuel hose into a plastic bottle and spun it over for a while but nothing is coming through. I also blew down the hose in case it had a blockage but I could hear the fuel bubbling in the tank. Do I need to prime the fuel pump or something else?

Is it mechanical or electric pump? New or used?

Could be the diaphragm is burst which gives no pressure, so I'd buy a new one, the 1990 onwards 1275 carb(hif38) cars use this one:

Or simply blank off the fuel pump aperture on the back of the engine and fit a FACET electric pump at the back of the car.

Can't you just replace the diaphragm if it's damaged? I seem to recall doing this years ago..

All sorted now. I filled the tank up over half way and that seemed to do the trick.

Probably an air lock then if that cured the problem.
