have an Exported BMC Layland MINI which on paper says 1974.. plaket says XA2S1N 0006003-Z
how can i tell based on the chassis if it is a MKII or MKIII... bought the car with 80% parts missing....

There are some confusing terms regarding the marks when you are looking at import/export models.

Based on your chassis number Mk3 Mini 1000 saloon see below.....(twin bolt front subframe and internal door hinges, although some of the last Mk3 during changeover cars come with a few of the Mk4 features!)
October 1969 to 1974 “Model Year” – English Built
CHASSIS NUMBER/VINThe general format for the Chassis Number/VIN for these cars is:
X-A2S1N-XXX-A
VIN, Last position (“A” in the above example):
= Assembly plant. Officially, “Internal Use Only”
If used at all, this would be “A” for English built cars. All English built Minis were now being built at Longbridge.
A = Longbridge
