Hello folks, am in a bit of a quandry here...

Iv bought a pair of classic bucket seats (minus headrests, glad they was cheap), Iv grafted MG Metro seat subframes on to them, and got the ready to bolt into my Mini... The thing Im wodering is, for the MoT, do the seats have to lock into position to basically stop them from lifting when braking, in other words, do they have to lock into the car with the anti-tip thing that clips onto the bar thats in the floor...? Or does it not matter, ot is it at the discretion of the MoT tester...?

The seats themselves will be safe etc... and will maintain the tilt mechanism so can get access to the rear seats for passengers, but if they have to have the anti-tilt then I'll not be fitting them....

dont quote me...

but im pretty sure it has to be able to lock, i mean if had a crash head on.....well pretty much *******. to be fair though either way it wont really matter.

Also im sure if mot tester is not 100% then may well get away with it. but not greatest idea ha

I've got cobra classic without headrest and cobra frames I admit the frame are early ones and they have no locking device but if you buy new frame they do come with a locking device it also depends on the year of the car as I think the early one don't have the bars with bolt to the floor so nowhere to lock in to

I would think you'd need an anti tilt. In a crash it would fire you through the windscreen otherwise.

Wouldn't your seatbelt prevent the whole thing from tipping forward in a crash regardless of whether there is a locking device under the seat? A seat only weighs 10 kgs or so, so the seatbelt wouldn't really be doing much more work than restraining a slightly chubby person.

Thanks for the answers folks....

Its MoT is due next week, but think it'll get into the New Year before I can take it/afford the test fee....

If he fails it on the non fitted anti-tilt, I'll just replace the bucket seats with the standard Mini seats and then take it back for the MoT certificate.... That'll then give me 12 months to fabricate an anti tilt for the bucket seats....

Well the drivers seat is in, its a bit snug to say the least... I don't consider myself to be fat exactly, but have gone a bit chunky over the years.... maybe thats why they're a bit snug LOL

In a head on collision at 30mpg you'd feel deceleration of around 30G+ making the seat 300kg. The idea of the seatbelt is to stop you from going forward, not you and the seat tipping forwards and upwards through the roof. I've not looked, but are there laws on how a seat is mounted in a car? I know there are LOADS on seatbelts.

My Mk1 had no seatbelts from the factory and the seats have no locking device. Maybe being out through the window was thought to be the safest place to be in event of an accident ha
