Hi All,

Not sure of this is in the right place but here goes,

I am looking for some pictures of how people have mounted Cibie Oscars to the front of their mini. I have just managed to get a pair of original 1970's ones!

Is the standard sort of lamp bracket (http://www.minispare...44.aspx|Back to) ok or do I need something a bit beefier? I am looking to mount them on the front lip just in front of the grill.

Also, I have seen mention of people using jubilee clips as lamp stay bars but I can't picture how this works so any pictures of this would be great too!

Thanks in advance!

When you've very little money as a poor apprentice you make your own out of ally flat bar and conduit. Must be sturdy to avoid the shakes.

It was a bit heath robinson but you'll see the principle. Flat bar with 2 T pieces bolted to slam panel, 2 pipes with flat steel feet bolted up and down onto top of bumper panel. Solid.

I am thinking I will make my own, luckily at work I have access to plenty of sheet steel and cutting and bending machines so I am sure I can come up with something suitable!

Just interested to see others' solutions!

The Jubilee clip idea is where you cut the clip and fold it flat with the screw part in the middle.

One end is fixed to the lamp the other to the body work .. in the old days with rivets usually.

Screwing the "clip" in or out would adjust the angle as well as acting as a steady.

SO depends if you want to drill holes in your newly obtained and rare(ish) Cibies ... personally I wouldn't but depends how much the brackets flex.

I am not sure those lamp brackets will work, I think the hole is too small for the lamps.

I recently fitted some Cibie replicas recently, using a "works" style bar and OMP lamp steadies.

I should add the brackets of the bar required a lot of modification. the lamps are quite deep

That is a neat install there, really nice.

I have found this over on another forum

Just a modified wipac mount, I like how discreet it is and cant see why it would move too much if bolted on sufficiently! I will get some steel from work and knock some up and try it.

As mentioned above I really don't want to have to modify the lights to fit a steady bar as they are very nice original lights in very good condition, their previous owner has advised he had them on a morris minor back in the 70's mounted in a similar way and never had any issues.

It also depends on how firm the suspension is and what sort of roads you're driving over. No matter how firm its fixed to the bracket and no matter how firm the bracket is fixed to the bodywork it will flex if the road is rough and the suspension setting is hard. I know this through years of rallying and the movement of the light beams becomes annoying. Fitting a steady to the top on large lights is the most practical way of stopping it moving, but, as always with these things, its a compromise between style and functionality.

My experience with aux lamps tells me that, that will vibrate a lot.

Thanks for all the replies!

These look good but I am struggling to see how the drop down bracket fits? I think I am being a bit thick....

These are mainly for style over functionality but will be useful in the back roads where I live so obviously I do not want them wobbling all over the place.

Yes I see, looks like they actually bolt/rivet onto the bumper... I would have thought that would be a bit wobbly, but if it is good enough for the works cars I suppose it will work!

I always make my own bracket which can take 2 or 4 aux. lights depending on what event I am doing, I use Jubilee clips for top steadies which are easy to adjust:

I also made my own, but only for two lamps.

I leave the lamps attached and the whole lot removes with just 4 bolts (captive nuts).  Very sturdy, no steadies and no vibration.
