Hi all,

I am planning to start a mini workshop in south africia in the new year. I need some ideas for the name for the workshop. For now, we are only going to work on the classic mini.

The most names such as Mini Spares, Service, Sport has already been registered. I was thinking of Mini Works, but need to see what creative names are out there.

Thanks in advance for your input.

How about 'the works....'

Might be safer than using the word Mini from a trade mark point of view.

Hmm yes, I've heard imagery and the use of the word can be a bit ....sensitive.

How about 'Miracle Machines'

Whiles it maybe desirable to include the name 'Mini' in the business name, think and looking further down the track, if the business should go beyond Minis, having this in the name, maybe less desirable, as say the Mini work (simply due to the number of cars about) peters down and you have to start working on other vehicles to keep it all viable. Then also at some future point, this brings about a Business Name Change, that's usually taken in all kinds of odd ways by the customers, with 'ideas' with things the business is new, or there's been a change of owners or the old business went out of business etc etc.

Good advice. When I was thinking of a company name; although 95% of my work was Mini based, I didn't want Mini in title. Mini work is now about 25% of my turnover. Also avoided the words 'Sport,'Speed'.

Also note BMW will want payment for the use of the word Mini.

As said above there may be a cost involved which if you choose to ignore can lead to lawyers letters and a court summons in the UK.  BMW UK are very protective of the "Mini / MINI" name when used for a business, that's why companies like M-Machine are no longer called Mini Machine.  I obviously don't know the situation in South Africa but I've heard BMW UK have softened their stance in the last few years and if you contact them they will licence you the "Mini" name for a nominal fee depending on what type of business you are intending to set up.
