Hey, I picked up a mini yesterday and although It's pretty tatty, it's nice and solid in the main places and still on it's original sills that are solid. Only thing bugging me is the battery box is aluminium, so I'm guessing just a quick repair in the past instead of welding a proper box back in.

So how much of a job is it? I've never done a battery box but it looks as though it just needs plug welding on? if so that'd be awesome as the area around looks good.

Anyone have any photos just to have a look at.

I'm not the best welder but is it something worth doing myself? It will most likely look a bit messy but at least it would have the proper battery box back in

Thanks!

One of the easiest body repairs on a Mini in my opinion, and well worth doing as aluminium against steel is going to promote electrolytic corrosion.

Simple enough. the batter boy is only spot welded with a weld in each corner. Although the non-genuine battery boxes need a little fettling as the shape of the flanges don't match those of the boot floor.

Great, thanks chaps. Once welded in shall I seam sealer all around the edge underneath and in the boot side?

It wouldn't hurt to.

And don't forget to drain and remove the fuel tank and remove the seats.

as above easy to do, put a plug weld/spotweld every 1 1/2 to 2 inches, I would definitely seam sealer the underside, up to you on the inside.
