Hi,

I bought a 1990 Mini Cooper from Somerford Mini in 2014.  It had had its original engine fully rebuilt as 1293 and with a Richard Longman stage 3 head.

They advised me to run the engine in, then get it properly setup on a rolling road - think it needs a carburettor expert, and needle options etc.

I've never managed this because I'm in Scotland and there's nowhere with such a facility here.

Can anyone recommend somewhere in England from personal experience?  I think I'll be at the Himley Hall show in May - is there anywhere near there?

Many thanks,

- Rob L

Despite their reputation in the sales department, Minisport do a decent job on the rolling road.

Phil.

+1, Rob on minisports rollers knows everything and anything about setup, amazing watching him at work, especially when filing bespoke needles using years of knowledge.

In Scotland the only tuner with rolling road who seems to get good reviews is Ricky Gauld, based in Huntly. He has 40+ years of experience, so will be well versed in tuning carbs on traditional engines.

The Mini Works just outside Edinburgh are also in process of getting rolling road installed.

As carbon says go for Ricky, also if you want a bit of a drive to warm her up then go to highland performance up in Thurso!

Thanks for the tip about Ricky!  That could be quite convenient, since we have a holiday cottage in that area and I do know it (sensational, empty driving roads!).  Would give me an excuse to take the Mini up there!

Also good to hear about Mini Works, there definitely seems to be a gap in the market for this sort of thing in the central belt of Scotland.
