From the BBC News website today:-

"Betty, a resplendent royal blue 1999 Paul Smith Mini Cooper, has just arrived downstairs.

Handing over the keys is a tweed-wearing, bearded Tony Grant, who owns 10 such Minis with names like Poppy, Mildred and Lulu.

Self-styled "Head Gasket" at Small Car Big City, he is adding a new twist to the car hire and car-sharing business.

As part of the fun, there are fancy dress outfits in the boot to match The Italian Job film theme, along with a crowbar and a bar of (imitation) gold."

Nice idea but I wouldn't trust anyone with my car. I don't even let my misses drive it

Notice there was no prices given in the write up??........another way for the rich to buy their way into the mini scene without getting their hands dirty.

We had this in the "YANK SCENE" couple of years back. You'd turn up at a show with your pride + joy, and park next to a lovely old muscle car, the driver posing with his arm draped out the window usual dolly bird by his side...lookin for who's lookin at "my car".

Of course when asked he'd always say he'd done this and that to said car, while putting other owners cars down, these types are one step down from "TRAILER QUEENS" imop.

^^Fair point but not sure how it relates to this?

I saw the article yesterday. I get that private car ownership maybe moving on but I really struggle to see how the proposed plan is any better than a traditional car rental company? All you need is a more specialised version where you get a few cars in stock. If people want one to try out something simply get on a waiting list, or book out against a calendar and limit how long one person can have the same car to prevent it being hogged for too long by one person. Maybe that's a decent start of a business model. All the time private ownership and PCP (or other finance deals exist) I don't see the market really.
