I'm trying to track down some tartan material from the sidewalk. Tried somerford and they only stock panels not the actual material. Anyone know where I could get some from? Cheers

I've looked into this, without any luck. I've spoken to various tartan specialists including the official tartan register people and no luck. It's certainly not an officially recognised tartan. Buying an old interior seems the best way, but prices have got stupid of late.

Thanks for that humph. It's not imperative that it's a perfect match just similar would suffice. My sidewalk came with a different interior all together and I think the tartan as whole is OTT but I wanted to introduce it in small places in my new interior as a nod to what it previously was.

If that makes any sense at all.

What about Newton Commercial?

Newton Commercial will not sell material, but they will quite happily sell you a complete set of covers.  I need a small piece of the Rover Cooper lighning bolt material for the drivers seat on my RSP Cooper as it is starting to wear through but they said no.  They made it clear to me that they are a business and it would be below their commercial aspirations to sell me a measly metre of the cloth.

I hope I never have to buy anything from the bunch of ####s, but it seems they may have cornered to market.  I'm keeping my eye out for a second hand Mini 30 seat as the seat bases are the same as the RSP.

Material / dressmaking shop should be able to supply you what you need. Or John Lewis if there's one near?

Bit harsh....they put a lot of time and money into being able to supply trim for our cars. They fact the dont want to supply you raw materials is understandable. Most car trim isn't available - try buying for another marque.

Interior trim used to be available by the metre from Rover Dealers.

It really depends Newton's own supplies. If they bought up production end stock, it's worth more to them made up in to their products so you can't blame them for putting their needs first.

There are online fabric retails, maybe google images would be useful for searching too.

I've also got a Sidewalk, and the interior is fine at the moment. But long term, I'm going to replace the tartan with one from Harris Tweed. Quite a few places sell it.

Don't forget they make a lot of money supplying trim for our cars, we don't owe them a debt of gratitude.

It was as much the way the guy on their stand at IMM last year spoke to me as their policy that they wouldn't sell me the cloth.  The first time I contacted them, I got an apology and an explanation that they only had a couple of metres of the cloth left and they wanted to hold onto it, fair enough.  Then I saw that they were remaking the mainstream Cooper seats so I contacted them again and this time I got a much different response and the feeling that they were wasting their time talking to anyone who wanted to restore an existing seat cover, frustrating and annoying.  Then at the IMM last year I saw that they are now remaking the RSP/30 seats and I asked if they couldn't sell me the cloth would they repair my existing cover.  The guy on the stand rolled his eyes at me as and stated they were a business as I was explaining that I only wanted to renew the cloth as the leather section had a patina that matched the passenger and rear seat.  Harsh would have been dragging him across the stand and wiping the smug look off his face instead of waking away.

What about charity shops you sometimes get something suitable if it's just for small pieces you could cut from trousers, shirts etc

A very cold topic, I know, but was just searching around here as I'm also interested.  I found this:- https://www.lochcarr...-tartan-fabric/ and it looks pretty close to the Sidewalk tartan to me. Could this ancient mystery be solved  :proud:  ?
