....It was imported to the UK in 1980....

Where from?

From what i've read the Italian built Innocentis had a B38/8 Vin number.

B39/7 ? A later Italian prefix? or poss a Belgian (Seneffe) or Spanish (Authi) built Innocenti Mini Cooper 1300 Export but i'm only guessing here.

These sites might help a little-

you have too many letter after for the VIN

so the Innocenti 1001 with the factory designation B 38, then came under the code B 39 of the Innocenti Mini-Cooper 1300

Yup, just found it

https://books.google... number&f=false

B39/7 for the Leyland Innocenti Cooper Export model starting from 54001

So B39/7....551164....DGM94630M makes more sense now (the MK1 Innocenti had an Italian Ministry of Transport Homologation reference IM45780M stamped after the build number -so DGM94630M is probably the MK3 reference). EDIT: Just found a reference DGM94630M is an Italian homologation reference number.

Jup, seems you guys got it figured out. My 1975 Innocenti Cooper 1300 Export has B39/7 code as well as the DGM94630M reference. Mine is from the end of the line, yours seems to be an earlier Export so '74 sounds pretty solid with that number.

Have you got any pictures of your car? They're fabulous looking and the last real Coopers made under the original deal with the John Cooper Car Co to finish up the contract after the production of the Mk3 Cooper 'S' has ended in the UK but the contract with Cooper lasting until '75.
