I think that would be somewhere between £3500 & £6000 in todays money. I'm sure most of Swiftune and the likes customers would pay it.

I have always though it odd that they wouldn't do a pre A+ block without tappet chest covers. The AppK cars are allowed to run them due to the scarcity of S blocks and it would be a better block for general high performance applications.

The Minis with the highest values are the original Cooper 'S' models. That is why the target is to produce a Mk.1 'S' block to encourage restorers to buy one. That way you could make a Mk.1 850 into a true replica 'S', or do a 'log-book' restoration to original specification and have a 'fully restored' Cooper 'S' worth, say, £30,000, which would make the cost of the block unimportant.

Are you sure A+ blocks are allowed in FIA historic racing? I thought it was only solid block A-series engines not the stronger A+ which is allowed, but I may be wrong.

It does seem likely that a figure of £5000 to £6000 will be the cost of a new 'S' block, but if you need one for competition then that won't be an issue.

Minispares - "casting boxes made, samples have been cast, we are now just trying to get the machining done for an acceptable cost as the way we want it doing and the standard we are looking for is proving to be difficult and expensive."

The new block will probably be so expensive, that it will make little difference to the price of original blocks,

People will still pay to have an original block to make their log book build

As a machinist this is the case unfortunately, if machining an engine block from scratch was simple it'd be cheap and they would be available in abundance. you pay for quality when it comes to machining. also the investment in tooling and fixtures wouldn't be cheap either so thats factored in

New Cooper S engine block is on its way........

Latest News update:-

"The finished item isn't going to be alloy, these were just cast to test the pattern boxes & start to work out the machining operations. The finished block will be cast iron just like the originals."
