I have put a 12g295 head on my 998A+ engine and now the original waterpump pulley is touching the head, i have tried putting the fan spacer the other side of the pulley and it does'nt touch but the alignment with the alternator pulley is wrong. What pulley should i use?

You will need to fit the 3.875 inch pulley as fitted to the Metro, but this will introduce a further problem of spinning the pump faster causing problems of cavitatation if you use continued high revs. This can be overcome by fitting the evo pump from Minispares. Having said that you can't fit the evo pump without relieving the block. It sounds worse than it is and well worth doing.

It is possible to grind the underside of the head where the pulley is catching to give clearance, but this does depend on the amount head has been skimmed and the size of the water pump pulley.

As NorthernPower suggests, would recommend using the largest water pump pulley you can get to fit.

Ideally you need 1mm clearance between the rim of the pulley and the underside of the head when all assembled.

I have the minispares evo pump already, is the pulley the same on the 998 and 1275 metro's?

What about taking a few thou off the edge of the pulley?

I put a 12g295 on my A+ and had the same problem, was told it was because i had 80 thou skimmed off the head. I put on the smaller pulley and also had to space it 3mm forward. I also had to make a 5mm spacer for the top alternator bracket to get the alignment right. Ultimately belt alignment is set by the crank pulley.

A poly-v belt conversion would be ideal here as the diameters of all 3 pulleys could be reduced. Need to keep the vibration damper (if fitted) of course.

I don't know if anyone makes such a conversion, but if not, they should! Better power transmission, less friction, no stretch so no adjustment after initial installation, long life. That is why they are used on most modern cars. Ali is ok for the pulleys, and the machining is relatively simple.
