I wouldn't prop a door open with a sony anymore to be honest, i've had 5 of them and they all die the same death, display problems.

better to get a pioneer or alpine imo, bullet proof reliabilty and good build quality.

sumat like this would be pretty good value for money

This is gonna sound a bit strange, but I really don't rate Sony car audio kit at all. Yet I currently own a Sony HU ;D

I only got mine because it was cheap (2nd hand on eBay), had an Aux In (for my iPod) and a wired and wireless remote (for SPL comps)

That Pioneer looks a good choice for your budget...or perhaps this one if you need Bluetooth

Or this...very tasty screen plus USB input

alpine is the way forward there headunits are second to none, i have a Alpine CDA7876rb was a £600 unit back in the day, alpines are quite expensive but even the lower units have a great spec

alpine take things a little further than a jack point for the mp3 player most alpines have loads of phonos one for subs one for front speakers one for rear speakers and some phonos marked aux for anything you want.

The ideal mp3 player you want with an alpine is the ipod as it links directly to the headunit and allows you full control over your ipod without having to touch it. You may be able to use this method with your sony but i aint sure.

Sony's tend to be good on features and my last sony headunit would easily rival my current pioneer (7700MP) om sound quality, it was just the realibilty that was at fault.
