Hi I think my starter motor on my 1999 MPI is stuck. I intend to remove - is there any way of lubricating/servicing it, it or does it just mean a new one? Any tips gratefully received. TIA.

hello,

to my knowledge you could take the starter motor out and try to power it by an external source (jump pack or car battery?)

if the motor doesn't spins its going to need replacing

however if it does spin try re-installing it.... sometimes they can "repair" themselves but be careful it may not be reliable and should be replaced anyways as you probably don't want to be stuck anywhere.

hope this helps in anyway

When you say stuck, so you mean it's spinning and not engaging? ie solenoid is stuck?

It just clicks when I turn the ignition and the RAC got it going recently by hitting the body of the starter motor to free it. It's then been left standing another week or so and it just clicks again when I turn the ignition... The battery is definitely fully charged & okay (it's on a Ctek charger/conditioner). I've now removed the starter motor (with solenoid attached) and am wondering what I can now do to test/lubricate/service it? Thanks.

Chec the condition of the link wire between starter and attacged solenoid as i had the same problem and turned out i needed to re solder a new wire link in.
