I bought some D1's for my mini and the wheel fitters said the gaps between the wheel nut holes on the d1's were greater than my wheel hub will allow. The wheels I have on there currently have 100mm gap between wheel nut holes. I can't remember what the difference was between the D1's and my current wheels in terms of hole spacing but I looked on the JBW website and all 12" wheels with 4 holes appear to be 101.5mm apart from each other including their D1's. I bought my D1's on ebay, If I had to guess I would say they were reconditioned original D1's but I cant be sure. Does anyone know if there's a difference between original D1's and reproductions or if because my car is a 1987 automatic if that makes a difference to wheel nut spacing?

Alternatively does anyone know where I can get 4 hole mini wheels that have a spacing of 100mm between them?

Thanks

All minis are 4x101.6mm pcd or 4x4".

It's possible the wheels were made for a BMC 1100, they are 4x114.3mm pcd or 4x4.5"

Are these d1's genuine or the MWS copies?

If original they use sleeved nuts, so yes, it will look like the PCD is bigger, but it isnt. The copies use a tapered, self centralising nut.

10 or 12"? Massive differences in the 12" version comparing the genuine one to copy.

Genuines have DUNLOP cast in the back of them, and an LP number, do yours have these? Putting a pic of them from the front will give it away too, as the genuine's have a wider offset.

The centre cap is alloy not plastic, and is held on by a retaining bar, not a 'clip'.

Does anyone know a part number for the correct lug nuts for the original Dunlop D1s, preferable in stainless? Thanks.

No but there is no way I would ever use stainless wheel nuts.

Well they don't make the actual body out of stainless typically, at least not Gorilla brand ones, they're zinc plated mild steel sheathed in stainless.

I just measured my D1s and the holes are 17.5 mm diameter by 14 mm deep which is an odd size. 15.5 mm diameter is more common.

timmy850 - I think you're right because 4x 114.3 was the gap size at the tyre place.

I tried to attach photo's but having trouble navigating the tool bars on here but LP is written on the back of the wheels for sure

geez.. i guess its back to the drawing board for me then. I'll have to buy another pair from JBW, correct ones this time in 4x 101.6mm

My mini has 12" wheels and the D1's I have are 12" also.

Thanks for all your responses

The PCD of the wheel studs is 4". Forget the metric dimensions, it was designed in imperial measurements.

Off topic. I agree here with Nick, Stainless is bad news for wheel nuts. There's many grades and some are worse than others.

There is however, a few types of Rustless Steels available, which are ideal for wheel nuts. A Rustless Steel is not a Stainless Steel.

I couldn't find anything on rustless steel that differentiated it from stainless. What are its constituents?

I've seen some 13" Rallye special wheels on the JBW website that I like which are 4x 101.6mm... If my car currently has 12" wheels does that mean I would have to mod my car to fit 13" ones? Sorry if thats a stupid question but Im really new to all this

If you have standard 12" steel wheels with 145/70/12 tyres then yes.

The majority of the time you will need to trim the front wheel arches to fit any 12" or 13" wheel which uses a tyre that his bigger than 145mm in cross section.

So yes, 13" will need some mods to fit, 12" with a 145/70/12 tyre should fit OK, but even a 12" with a 165/60/12 will need the wheel arches cutting back and reshaping.
