850 Gearbox

My 850 engine and gearbox is out of the car Checked to see if gears select.before putting back in car. I cannot get 3rd  4th and reverse.Is it possible that when it is back in car and running that it may be ok.thank you

It may be OK, but then again it may not. If not it will be a lot of work to get it out again.

Have you touched the gear selector at all? The bottom plate thing, if in the wrong way wont allow you to get all gears

no sure what the plate thing is.It has a magic wand gearstick if that makes any differance

When trying to select any of the gears while the engine is out, try slowing rotating both the diff output yokes, in the same direction, while trying to select the gear. Might need a helper. Once it goes in gear, you shouldn't be able to turn the yokes anymore, you'll only be able to spin them while in neutral.
