Hi, this may be a rookey, stupid question but here goes. I have a 1982 mayfair with drum breaks all round, I have recently brought some 10x6 ultralights and am lookinf for a slightly wider stance. Can i fit spacered drums front and back, is this possible? I can only seem to find spacered drums for post 1984.

Spacered drums can be fitted to an earlier car. You will need to change the wheel studs for the longer post-84 type all round, make sure you get good quality as they are highly stressed and the cheap ones can snap...

Also you may find that your wheel bearings won't last as long. The earlier bearings for drum braked minis are ball bearing type and at the front (most heavily loaded) are also smaller than the later bearings for disc brakes.

As a noticeable modification you might want to also check if this affects your insurance premium.

Two sets of rear 84 on studs.

Or get two pairs of Super Minifin drums as they come with studs as well IIRC.

As already explained there WILL be a reduction in wheel bearing life. But what is worse is that messing about with wheel offsets and spacers directly affects the scrub radius, a key suspension parameter, and can absolutely ruin the steering feel, and in certain extreme cases can be dangerous.

The Mini will handle far better with wheels with the width and offset for which it was designed. Feel and handling are for serious drivers. "Stance" is not.
