Hi All,

Having a new cover made to match my fronts: Rover 200 black leather.

Need to replace the foam as well as it's 39 years old!

It's £150 delivered to me, here in Belgium - reasonable.

BUT,

my next door neighbour has just removed the complete interior from his 1995 BMW, and is heading to the tip.

Could I remove the grey cloth and recycle the foam.? It's much thicker than the mini so I thought I could 'trim' it down using my kitchen electric carving knife...

(Many years ago, an upholsterer gave me this tip about cutting upholstery foam)

And as I'm having the cover made-to-measure, surely I could save myself the £150.?

Thoughts.?

If you need to smooth out sharp corner in foam the use a hot air gun, gently. Also you can cut foam easily with just a hacksaw blade. Made a new mattress for my Motorhome about 10 years ago from a double bought from IKEA.

You have nothing to lose by trying it, so give it a go and if it does not work out you know you can buy a replacement.

I used the electric kitchen knife method when refoaming my driver's seat. Works a treat, but measure twice and cut once 😉
