My British Open Classic has the heat shield fitted through the tunnel the same as the injection Minis.

I've just fitted a new standard RC40 on the standard non-injection mounts (using a new kit) and the middle box is hitting the heat shield.

Have I done something wrong or is it simply a case of taking the heat shield off?

Do you have a catalytic converter?
I think the heat shield is to protect from the cat getting hotter than a 'normal' exhaust.
If you dont, take it off.
Secondly, if it is touching the heat shield it might be that the exhaust is sitting too high.
Do you have some pictures of clearance?

Ben

Hi Ben,

No; I don't have a cat. I think the issue is that exhausts with cat's sit lower as they are mounted on the rubber hangers rather than the cotton reals.

I've removed it now anyway and everything is good; no more knocking. Enough clearance all the way around to fit my fingers in so that's good enough for me.

Cheers.
