Not Turning Over

I have a 76 1098 clubman..it's been sat in the garage for far too long to be fair...10+ years :-/
I have been starting her up regular over that time but alas it's been about 3 years since she has started...
I've a feeling the starter needs taking out and given a good clean as I think it may be seized....
When I turn the key I get a few clicks and then all I can hear is a whirring noise..I can only assume that the starter is spinning but the bendix? Is not throwing out onto the flywheel?
I did the old Bridge the solenoid trick but got no spinning noise at all trying that?
Not been able to rock her in gear yet as in a garage with uneven (read unfinished) floor and rear drums a bit stiff...
Hopefully I'm going to have a bit of time over easter to spend a day or to on her...
I've had 3 kids and a mortgage since she was initially garaged so alas she has been down the pecking order when it comes to time and money!

the wring will be the bendix not being moved.
bridging the terminals should have exactly the same result as the key as that is what both do. make a circuit.

Might be worth a try to place the car in gear (2nd or 3rd) and then try pushing the car back and forward. Also, if the battery is not up to scratch, it can also give the impression that the starter is just clicking. Have you tried a jump pack on the battery?

I haven't tried a jump pack...could be the batt...it's been on charge all week though...I've a feeling the starter does need a bit of gentle persuasion tried tapping a few times but no joy...I reckon it needs taking out and freeing up and re lubricating...
That wouldn't hurt for sure
