I have a mini MPI with a new exhaust system :

It is the RC40 "Millennium" range :

- RC40 middle box in mild steel

- RC40 back box stainless steel  with large tail pipe silencer side exit

still the cat in place, but wanted to put a Maniflow LCB but don't know between the standard and and the "stage 2"

It should quiet down a touch once filled with soot.

Stainless exhaust will be a little more loud, but as Mervyn said it will quieten down with use. Rc40 best combination for a mini, lovely mellow sound to it.

Maybe a little more loud due to the LARGE BORE TAIL PIPE ?

Or Maybe due to the KN air filter I put in the box when I install the exhaust system ?

Witch LCB is good for an MPI ?

Maniflow : Normal or Stage 2 ?

Specialist Components (but in stainless so more loud I think) ?

Standard Maniflow LCB is excellent.

If too loud it might be the big-bore tail pipe. These are often called 'power-sapping noise-boosters'. They make more noise, but lose a few bhp because the exhaust gas slows locally before the end of the pipe and the gases don't exit at the correct speed, causing a local high-pressure area and a loss of power. The basic exhaust pipe, 1.75" dia, needs to be the same from the join to the LCB and the final exit point.

Cooperman

Do you test the 2 twin box exhaust systems ?

Maniflow and RC40 ?

I have run both twin-box RC40 and twin box Maniflow systems on a 1275 'S' rally car. Rally cars have to meet strict noise levels and teh Maniflow was slightly noisier than the RC40, but it was better made, so stronger for competition.

In order to get best power the final exhaust pipe diameter must be the same as the rest of the pipe, or there will be a power loss caused by the over-size final exit. On a 1275 engine a 1.75" diameter pipe is best with a single 1.75" outlet pipe.

Set up properly both RC40 & Maniflow systems are reasonably quiet.
