Right then, just a quick question. With me having the technical expertise of a trout, is £420 a good price for a reconditioned gearbox. This includes taking my old box out and putting it back in. And also he mentioned something about a X-Pin Diff? Just want to know if this is reasonable or am i getting done over?

Cheers Mark.

Hmm, seems a little steep. For the gearbox, I'd say £100-150 for it being reconditioned, £120-150 for the x-pin diff (why do you need this, has your engine been modified?), then about £150-200 for engine out and in again. Oh ok, it is an ok price! LOL!!

If it's running mini in, he takes engine out, replaces gearbox, puts engine back in and you drive home... then it's not a bad price...

You're looking at anywhere from 200 to 400 just to take the engine out...

Check the link below for some information on gearbox refurbs/reconditioning/rebuilds

If you do go for it, then make sure he replaces the box with one with the same Final drive (diff) ratio and speedo takeoff worm and pinion, or you speedo reading will most likely be innacurate.

Cols mini isn't bad, still a bit overrpiced for what you get, although last year I asked him the same question about replacing and refurbing a gearbox, he wanted £600. so I'm glad he's come down on price!

I remember seeing you saying you were in Bumsgrove in an introduce yourself thread or something... maybe the Midland region forum here?

Anyway, I'm on rock hill.... What about you buddy?
