Hi

My name is Steffen and I am located in Hesse, Germany.

One year ago I bought an 72` Mini MKIII with a standard 998cc engine (36 hp). It cames with a twin stromberg 125 cd carb on a Alexander manifold.

The carbs now are ultra sonic cleanded, have new gasket, diaphragms and pancake air filters. The car is still in restoration...

I have a few questions: Is a twin 1.25 to big for such a small A-Series engine?

If not - what type of needles do in need? There are still needles in the carb but I dont know the size - its not printed on the needles... Were can I get those needles or rather a set of it?

Finally: The carbs have fixed needles but adjutable stocks (i dont know the right english word for that) on the bottom of the carb. Do i still need different needles or can i adjust the carbs with the stocks in an wide range?

Sorry my english is not so good but I hope you understand my questions. :-)

Best regards

Steffen

Hi Steffen,

Sorry my German is worse than your English!

I don't have an answer to your question, however you will find a useful computer tool here;-

http://mk1-performan...hnical_carb.htm

if you click on the 'Needle Selection Tool' it will download a program that will help you with Stromberg Carbs fitted to Minis. You will also need LIBREOFFICE to make it all work.

Stromberg carbs were nearly always standard fitting to Triumph cars in the late 60's and 70's so someone like Rimmers might help. I think Saab used them for a while as well.

Twin 1.25 inch carbs are good size for a 998.

The original Coopers all used twin HS2 carbs until 1971. These were also 1.25 inch.
