I installed the front and rear sections of my new carpet set when I rebuilt my car but I'm not sure how to proceed with the piece over the cross-member.
How have people joined this piece to the front section?

As I read your post your carpet set is one piece for the back, one for the front and a piece for the cross member. Have you got pieces for the inner sills and front bulkhead? These pieces and the cross member piece are normally glued in place (I used an egos tick spray adhesive) and your front and back sections just butt up to them.

I've just fitted a new Newton carpet and found the best order was crossmember, side sills, wheel arch's, bulkhead piece and then the 2 floorpans. The evostick spray is really good stuff, the overspray is a lot better with the nozzle too.
It's easy to see why Rover moved to the one piece mounded effort.

Thanks - because the front and rear sections are a snug fit (and I've used the felt underlay) I haven't glued them in place. I've glued the sill pieces. It is the join between the cross member and the back of the front section behind the gearstick that I'm worried about because the felt under the front section means it's higher than the crossmember piece. Perhaps I'll have to felt under all of it.
