Straight answer Yes.....Minis sold in Japan had AC as standard. Some in Australia also.

I've actually just managed to get a full AC system from a crashed mini which was imported from Japan.

I'm hopefully going to try and fit it in the near future. It, as a system, is not over complex, however there are some questions in my mind.

The compressor mounting seems straightforward, if my assumptions are correct. From the look of what I've got, it seems that twin V belts are used on early versions (main belt drives the water pump and AC pump, secondary runs the alternator from a second groove on the AC pump). Or thats how I think it goes.

I believe a different pump, alternator, water pump drive etc is used on later minis, together with a toothed 'cambelt' type drive.

The heat exchanger I think goes in the area near the clutch/brake servo front mounted behind the grille. The drier/condensor I guess could go anyware there is room, as its a tad bigger than coil size.

I think the biggest problem might be getting pipes through into the passenger compartment, and venting the output of the fan/radiator assembly to the dash vents.

I think what I have came from a 1996 Mini Cooper SPI. I will be attempting to fit it to my 1991 Cooper carb.

I'll let you know how it goes, provided you aren't in too much of a hurry.

Chris.
