I've been told I need one that came from a 4cyl motor, but there was some debate as to whether I need one that has a positive/negative earth?? :D

I've asked this person what cylinder engine it came from, but no reply as yet:

I just want to get one that will definitely work on my little Austin! :- (and dont want to pay over-the-odds!)

Many thanks,

Joe :errr:

im no expert but magnolia gauges are realtively new and so should be negative earth. looks in far too good condition to be 30 odd years old.
give it a whirl and if its wrong just sell it on

Right I see, so how will I know if it is a negative earth rev-counter apart from asking the seller?? :D

And am I right in thinking then, that most 'modern' guages are negative earth?

Thank you!

Joe :errr:

P.S. I'm hoping it will go on my 1985 Mayfair, if that makes a difference to which one i'll need??

I can't check the link at work, will take a look when I get home (or someone else will do so before I get there!!) Most modern Gages are negative earth, Positive earth tended to be on very old cars! As for going on your car, should not make any difference!

I fitted a Tim Rev Counter Gague to my 1980 mini, it's 4 wires and takes no time at all! :-

If I lived in the U.K. I'd bid just to have the gauge. The opening price is very low. For the money I don't see how you could go wrong as long as the gauge is functional.

To repeat 200sxsimon's point... magnolia face gauges are pretty new so this gauge should be negative ground.

You asked how to tell if the gauge is negative ground. You need a really sharp, large picture of the gauge face. The one at the auction is too small to read... but the type (RVI or RVC) and the polarity are normally printed on the gauge face.

Ok thanks for all your help!

I'll wait to see what the seller says and might stick a bid in,

Thank you!
